Meet the horses we sponsor
Blaze, 14.1hh Wild Mustered Kaimanawa mare
With her sassy & opinionated manner, Blaze is the horse we all love to mock. Regardless she has proven herself a worthy opponent on the Competitive Trail Field. Coming in with consistently low heart rates and naturally travelling at the required 10km/h set speed. She has received several accolades in this discipline, finishing 5th at the DRNZ 3 day 60km Marathon in 2018 as well as several placings at club level along the way. In 2017 she placed 3rd out of a competitive field of 14 at the ESNZ National Championships, beating her mentor/trainer and proving that you don’t need to be a well-bred fancy Arab to succeed at this sport.
Blaze is partnered with her equally as strong willed rider, the 21 year old Brittany. Brittany entered the competition scene 3 years ago on board her favourite little mare and the two have been strengthening their relationship ever since. After succeeding in the CTR field, Brittany and Blaze have now moved toward Cowboy Challenge and Versatile Ranch Horse where they have had several placings at beginner level and have now graduated to rookie. Brittany is really excited about the challenges that the Rookie Grade will bring for her and Blaze next year and excited to see where this challenge takes them.
Tahi, 15hh Arabian gelding
Bred by local stud Arahi Arabians. With his fantastic temperament he is a delight to do anything with and has quickly cemented himself as the "go to” horse of the team as he will turn his hoof to almost any discipline. He has placed endurance rides (including a second place in a 100km junior event), multiple placings at Competitive Trail and he has now turned to the Cowboy Challenge/Versatile Ranch horse scene where he has picked up many placings including first place the VRH Teams day in June 2018, placings in Arabian in-hand showing, 3rd place in his first ever cowboy challenge at rookie level, and receiving several cowboy challenge sashes along that way that he is now graduated out of rookie level and into the Intermediate field.
Tahi has been paired with his owner/rider Natasha Guest for the past 9 years. Natasha appreciates Tahi’s chilled out nature especially on show day when her own pre-ride jitters get the better of her. A bad fall from a previous horse has resulted in Natasha being a bit more conservative than her younger team mate however her confidence is growing the more outings herself & Tahi have. Natasha believes in putting the practice in at home and this shows on the competition day as their scores improve and they sneak slowly up the ranks.
